The aim of the Digitable project is to develop and implement new practices for multimodal interaction and visualization using multiple surfaces (PDA, table, vertical screen, etc.), during collaborative tasks. Collaborative interactions are studied in co-localized and/or distant configurations.
A psychological experiment has been set up, during which humans had to solve puzzles in remote and collaborative situations. The interaction was possible using a video-conference system and with two large tactile tables (one on each of the remote sites), where users manipulated the puzzle pieces.
The data collected were:
The analysis of the collected data enabled to formalise the collaborative multi-modal interactions in terms of mutual awareness, coordination and coupling.
