Aim and objective

The Projet Insa Certifié (PIC) is a main component of the scholarship of the ASI Department. Its goal is to provide a real experience of a development or research oriented project during a signicative amount of time. The challenge is to propose or to realise technical solutions to a real problem provided by a company linked with the ASI curriculum. During this project, the students must use the rules and methods developed in the Project Management course, respect quality requirements without forgetting the human dimension of a project. Each PIC has a Project Leader, who is a student, for each semester and a Quality Manager.

The PIC is one year long half time. The team is located in the school. The size of the group is around 8 students. The project is controlled by two professors (scientific and quality), a representative of the company, and a psychologist.

      Pedagogic description of a PIC

The PIC is two semesters long (PIC 1 and PIC 2) with two phases each :

      • PIC1 during the 8th semester (ASI 4.2)
      • PIC2 during the 9th semester (ASI 5.1).

At the begining of each semester, the Project Leader, the representative of the company and the tutors validate a planification of the different tasks for the semester. The different phases will finish with an oral presentation (mainly at t0+7 and end of the semester). The jury is generally constituted with a representative of the company, the tutors and at least one member from P3 Unity (in charge of the PIC in ASI Department).

During the PIC, the students must provide a documentation that confirms they follow the quality procedures (planing, project management, ...). In order to evaluate the students, this planing must show for each student :

      • The work performed during the week,
      • The objectives that have not been reached during the week and the reasons,
      • The objectives for the week to come.

The PIC team will define with its tutors the frequency of their meetings in order to evaluate the advancement of the project. Audits and inspections are performed during the semester in order to verify that quality procedures have been respected. During the PIC, the students will have a communication oriented course. At the end of each semester the Project Leader and Quality Manager must provide a report that mentions the state of the project and its adequation objectives/results.

      Evaluation

For each student, the jury formulates a mark (PIC 1, 2) :

The PIC defines two main aspects for its validation based on coefficients :

      • Technical problems + Project Management + ISO 9001 Quality + Respect of coding rules, respect of the configuration management plan,... + the applications during the project.
      • Communication

The ranking of the technical problems, project management, respect of quality procedures (coefficient 11 or 9)

      Depending on :

      • the technical work that has been performed,
      • the results of the inspections and audits,
      • the quality of the oral presentations,
      • the quality of the delivered project,
      • the respect of the timing and the quality procedures,

      Ranking of the coding part

The quality of the code must be a constant goal of the team because it simplifies the maintenance.

Ranking of the Communication during the PIC

      Individual mark : 50% . Collective mark : 50%.

Ranking of the Project Leader (resp. Quality manager)

      • At the end of a specific Project Leader's (resp. Quality manager's) oral presentation dealing with his project management, the jury provides a mark.

      Validation

PIC is validated if student gets a mark greater than 10/20. Students are evaluated about the communication with a coefficient 2 and about technical aspects with a coefficient 13 (except for PIC chiefs et quality managers). For the PIC chiefs and quality managers, the mark is composed of two parts : a collective mark with a coefficient 7 and a responsabilities mark with a coefficient 8 assessed during the debriefing.
